See the unseen.
During one module in my studies at KEA, we were working creatively, exploratively, and experimentally in order to look at nature from another perspective, generate new knowledge, and develop new solutions. Throughout the process of making lab journals, we explored the city broadly, but through the process, we started seeing some patterns and we went to see the unseen kinda naturally. During the experiments, our focus became to reveal the things we usually can not see/hear/feel. We were several colleagues in my group and I decided to focus on the unseen, namely on roots.
Why do roots matter?
During my research, I came across this wonderful research publication from Noble Research Institute about roots "Why Roots Matter to Soil, Plants and You" https://www.noble.org/news/publications/ag-news-and-views/2018/june/why-roots-matter-to-soil-plants-and-you/. It is a quick read and the image and infographic from the paper are just amazing, so I warmly recommend you to have a look.
"Roots are responsible for anchoring the plant and uptake of nutrients and water" and for foraging for water and mineral nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus. But roots don’t matter only to the plant.
"Roots are central to soil health, which ultimately relies on the photosynthetic abilities of plants to provide food to the entire ecosystem."
"There is a hidden universe beneath our feet". "So, the next time you’re outside admiring the beauty aboveground, don’t forget there is an equally beautiful and complex world under your feet."
